When I first started playing Flightgear Flight Simulator, I really wanted a joystick. After a few days I didnt know if I was still enjoying the game or near to quitting it. I was in the middle. During these days I never landed my plane (as i played with mouse and keyboard). So now, this is the weird part. During the day, I want to buy a joystick, during the night, i dont. I dont know why. I dont play battlefield 4 as my pc cant handle it but my pc can handle flightgear. Oh, and this cant be a trial & error thing as the only shop near me that sells joysticks sells only one model and for $55, the logitech extreme 3d pro. Can someone please help me? do I really want a joystick?

how are real planes flown? even though Boeing still equips them with a flight stick (old habits die hard - literally) even they are no more then a "joystick" in function as they don't have any link w/ the planes real controls - all is computerized.

the origin thereof is Airbus whose planes have always been flown with joysticks which allow the pilots to communicate their intend to a computer which validates them and execute them within the safety envelop of the plane (e.g. not allowing the plane to rise so far that it would stale even if the pilot pulls his joystick completely back and keeps it in that position)

bottom line: real planes are flown with joysticks!

and keyboards, indeed (the Airbus cockpit indeed includes a keyboard for each pilot)

the Logitech is a possible choice, but definitely not the best - check if you can have the shop order a Saitek Cyborg Fly 5; much better then the Logitech for about ½ the price

I would skip the joystick and just pick up a gamepad... the best one for pc is the Xbox 360 controller for Windows... and that should also work with your game.

if u can enjoy playing games with mouse & keyboard, u definetly shouldn't buy it.

i am playing all games without a joystick on my laptop and enjoying pretty well. the whole matter depends on u weather u enjoy the game with keyboard or not....
