Any way to fix Fallout 3 crashing during the fight with Colonel Autumn at the end?

Basically my autosave is in the rotunda where Autumn and those two guards are waiting. I've been through all the conversation options at this point, and I've fought him, and I've let him go. Anyway, if I fight him, the game crashes right after he dies, or right after one of the two guards dies. I've killed all three quickly, still crashes. Even when I let him go, he almost made it to the door, then I shot him in the head, game crashed. I've tried the FFDshow fix, didn't work. I tried running in compatibility mode for Windows 2000, didn't work.

Weirdest part, the game was running perfectly until this point, and I actually got past that part before, but was trying to decide which ending to give myself and couldn't decide. Then I remembered I had Broken Steel, and wanted to install that before I finished so I could keep playing. But I couldn't find it, so I gave up and went back to beat it, and that's when the crashes started.

So, any ideas, or am I SOL?

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
AMD Phenom II x4 3.4gHz Quad-core
4 Gb (2 x 2gB) G. Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1333 RAM
ASUS ROG Matrix Radeon HD 5870 2Gb
1100-watt PSU
Running the game at full graphics, everything set to max, runs over 50 fps almost constantly, even at 1920 x 1080 full-screen, though I did start running it in a window just so I wouldn't have to alt-tab to get to other windows(running 1280x720 in a window).

Seriously, though, I'm at a loss.

Install the Patches

Modify an INI File

1. Open Computer.

2. Double click: C:\Program Files\Fallout 3

3. Open a file named fallout_default.ini

4. Look for the string named bUseThreadedAI=0

5. Replace 0 with 1

6. Insert an another line beneath the above, iNumHWThreads=2

7. Save the changes you have made and close the file. [Press Ctrl + S to save.]

5. In the textbox underneath, add the file fallout3.exe, when it lights up.

6. Click OK and restart Fallout 3 game
