Question:
Installing BF3 from the disc?

I have tried to install Battlefield 3 from the disc but it says downloading... I did some research and it said that it's actually installing from the CD when it says downloading, yet I'm only getting 300 KB/sec... People say that they get 50MB/sec, but I'm getting 300 KB/sec... Is that my internet connection's fault or my disc drive speed?

What you need to do is stop Origin and completely exit out of it. Reinsert the disc and let it open Origin when you click install. Once it begins to "download", you need to listen to your disc drive. If it is actually installing the game from the disc it will sound as it should when you install other games. If you cannot hear the drive spinning at full speed then you are not installling from the disc. I did this just yesterday and I installed in 20 mins at about 9.5MB/s. If you are not DLing at incredible speeds then you are DLing from the internet. Try this a few times, if it doesnt work then unfortunately you will need to DL the full 11GB. Good luck.

Okay the answer to every1's questions is simple now that i took forever working it out.

Step 1: Insert disc and let the autorun proceed (make an account when promted)

Step 2: Close Origin remove the disc

Step 3: While the disc is removed from the drive open Origin make sure the download hasnt started and says (start download).

Step 4: Now that Origin is open and says (start download) insert ur disc and select install

Step 5: It should now be installing at whatever speed your disc drive can handle so mine for example is (15MB/sec)

Same situation here. I've got as far as installing and updating Origin, but from there - autorun.exe and setup.exe on the DVD just checks to see if origin is installed, then opens origin again.... from within origin its like a kids play pen.... 2 options "BUY BF3" or "DOWNLOAD BF3".... didn't these retards realise people buy the dvd so they don't have to download the freaking thing again.... i'm over these so called "social community online experience" game hosting/shopping mall sites that dictate when u can and cant play ya games when they cant get there poo in the one sock.... HOW CAN I INSTALL BF3 FROM THE DVD I PAID FOR, WITHOUT HAVING TO DOWNLOAD THE WHOLE GAME THROUGH ORIGIN ???? any help would be gr8.

Ok brother, had the same problem. This is the fix.

Pop in the disc like normal. Run autorun, install origin. Update origin.

Exit origin.

Start origin back up, explore your DVD rom, click on setup.

You will be 'downloading' at about 10 megs a second from your dvd drive :)

I didn't bother to read all the answers, this is what you need to do to keep Origin from downloading the files, and install from the DVD instead.

1. Exit Origin

2. Start the DVD, log on to Origin through the DVD menu and install.

Easy. You'll get max speed, depending on your drive :)

That would also depend on the speed of your CD/DVD drive. check the speed first and try to see if there is an update for your disk drive's driver.

what you can also try is to disconnect your computer from the internet before starting the installer and see if anything changes.

Peace.

You need to be online to start the install process, as you need to verify your copy with Origin, but once the download started, I disconnected my internet, and it was still going fine.

you might want to back it out and start over. however, i got to about 30% install from disk apparently in about 10 mins then it stalled there and told me i needed to 'update' Origin...which I just installed. So, reinstalled Origin and now im stuck at 650/kbs dling the whole game cache from 0% again. :( Im desperate to get this thing running right too. BOOOOO EA............BOOOO EA!!! WTF OVER.

just my 2c, stuck in your same predicament. You have the only post online to this ive seen so far. So suffer well, im sure many of us are still. ;/

Idk but if anyone can tell me why I insert disk 1 and nothing pops up? ive tried running from my computer but then it just fails. Its as if there is no data on the disk. It has me go through the Origin setup but nothing else... even tried E:\AutoRun.exe and nothing. Any suggestions?
